Root Canal Treatment in Salem VA
What Is A Root Canal?
A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges.
At the center of your tooth is pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.
If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed.
Root Canal Overview
Root canal therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits, depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment. Dr. Garden uses local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort. In addition, we will provide nitrous oxide analgesia, if indicated. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you probably will be comfortable returning to your normal routine.

To provide you with a better understanding of endodontic therapy, we have provided the following multimedia presentation. Many common questions pertaining to root canals are discussed.
What happens after treatment?
When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. If a problem does occur, however, we are available at all times to respond. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.
How much will a root canal cost?
The cost associated with root canals can vary depending on factors such as the severity of damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an artificial tooth.

The most awesome fun medical office I've ever been in. The staff and Doctor have the best personalities on the planet and make you feel as if you're in your own home having the procedure done. Between them and the joy you hear throughout the office and the incredible music they play, you forget where you are and why you're there. I've made friends for life:)

Dr. Garden was great. I was very scared to have a root canal and she put me at ease. Other than the needles, which weren't that bad, the root canal was not painful. The only disappointment was that Dr. Garden was almost done when she discovered that the tooth was cracked and I have to get it pulled anyway. But as far as the procedure itself, I was very pleased.

I have had a hard time navigating treatment due to the odd make up of my tooth. However the extra attention, explainations, and steps to determine the best treatment plan that was given, made me feel more at ease. The staff were absolutely amazing and the doctor was super attentive. I have to go back for additional treatments but know I am in good hands. I hate the situation, but at least the right care team is available to me to assist with correcting my tooth. Will definitely recommend to others and give 5 stars to the whole team, even if I dread when I have to utilize the services.

Dr. Garden is outstanding! She provided me with a complete explanation of the procedure, and the reasons for the method of treatment given. She works extremely well with my personal dentist, and together they resolved my issue. If extensive root canal therapy is required, then Roanoke Endodontics is the place to go! The staff called me for a six month follow-up to ensure the treatment was successful. Thank you Dr. Garden!

While this was my first visit to Dr Garden, it wasn’t my first root canal. I was made aware of all aspects of the procedure including discussing potential options and was made aware of each step of the process . She is obviously a caring Dr and I would recommend her to anyone seeking a true caring professional that has patient care as the forefront of her practice.
