Endodontic Retreatment in Salem VA

Tooth Pain

With the appropriate care, your teeth that have had endodontic treatment will last as long as other natural teeth. Yet, a tooth that has received treatment may fail to heal or pain may continue to exist. Sometimes, the pain may occur months or years after treatment. If so, Dr. Garden or Dr. Mar may need to perform Endodontic Retreatment.

For more information about Endodontic Retreatment or to schedule a consult with Dr. Garden or Dr. Mar, please use our online Appointment form or call our office in Salem at Salem VA Endodontic Office Phone Number 540-989-6648.

We invite you to read patient reviews about their endodontic retreatment procedures at Roanoke Endodontics!

Improper healing may be caused by:

  • Curved or narrow canals that were not treated during the initial treatment.
  • Complicated canals that went undetected during the initial treatment.
  • The crown or restoration was not placed within the appropriate amount of time following the procedure.
  • The crown or restoration that did not prevent saliva from contaminating the inside of the tooth.

In some cases, new problems can influence a tooth that was successfully treated:

  • New decay can expose a root canal filling material, causing infection.
  • A cracked or loose filling or crown can expose the tooth to new infection.

Once retreatment has been selected as a solution to your problem, the doctor will reopen your tooth to gain access to the root canal filling material. This restorative material will be removed to enable access to the root canal. Dr. Garden or Dr. Mar will now clean your canals and carefully examine the inside of the problematic tooth. Once cleaned, the doctor will fill and seal the canals and place a temporary filling in the tooth.

At this point, you will need to return to your dentist as soon as possible in order to have a new crown or restoration placed on the tooth to restore full functionality.

Patient Review by Susan G

This was my first procedure, but I was there for a consultation. You all were incredibly accommodating with the warm blanket and my gagging (I'm so sorry!) I'm feeling great, and I'd definitely recommend you all! The high praise from my dentist was well deserved.

Patient Review by Les U

As a way of reciprosity for my excelent treatment, I feel that I should be able to point out ways that you could improve any aspects that may have arisen. Alas, I couldn't find any way that I could do that. Going to an appointment for any kind of tooth work, invokes negative feelings, and to minimize the anxieties we may have and to be as effective as what I have witnessed here, you as well as I are winners. Thank you Dr. Gardner, and thank you to all of your staff. It's sincerely appreciated!

Most professional and well managed practice I have every used as a patient. Dr Garden and all the staff were extremely polite and it was nice to see a practice run the way all practices "should" be run. Dr Garden explained the procedure and answered all of my questions in such a courteous manner. When a question arose a week later, she personally contacted me to provided the needed guidance! Excellent practice! Excellent doctor! Excellent staff!
