Endodontic Retreatment in Salem VA

Tooth Pain

With the appropriate care, your teeth that have had endodontic treatment will last as long as other natural teeth. Yet, a tooth that has received treatment may fail to heal or pain may continue to exist. Sometimes, the pain may occur months or years after treatment. If so, Dr. Garden or Dr. Mar may need to perform Endodontic Retreatment.

For more information about Endodontic Retreatment or to schedule a consult with Dr. Garden or Dr. Mar, please use our online Appointment form or call our office in Salem at Salem VA Endodontic Office Phone Number 540-989-6648.

We invite you to read patient reviews about their endodontic retreatment procedures at Roanoke Endodontics!

Improper healing may be caused by:

  • Curved or narrow canals that were not treated during the initial treatment.
  • Complicated canals that went undetected during the initial treatment.
  • The crown or restoration was not placed within the appropriate amount of time following the procedure.
  • The crown or restoration that did not prevent saliva from contaminating the inside of the tooth.

In some cases, new problems can influence a tooth that was successfully treated:

  • New decay can expose a root canal filling material, causing infection.
  • A cracked or loose filling or crown can expose the tooth to new infection.

Once retreatment has been selected as a solution to your problem, the doctor will reopen your tooth to gain access to the root canal filling material. This restorative material will be removed to enable access to the root canal. Dr. Garden or Dr. Mar will now clean your canals and carefully examine the inside of the problematic tooth. Once cleaned, the doctor will fill and seal the canals and place a temporary filling in the tooth.

At this point, you will need to return to your dentist as soon as possible in order to have a new crown or restoration placed on the tooth to restore full functionality.

Patient Review by Na N

I have had a lot going on in the last 2.5 years from going to the dentist about one tooth bothering me to being told I may need 6-7 root canals. I was not excepting that and was a mess. On top of that my mother was due to go to hospital for a hysterectomy to come out fighting for her life to dying 2 weeks later. I booked an appointment at the oral surgeon before this and had to cancel due to my mother’s unexpected death. I have since had so many financial obligations and I just haven’t had any time. I wasn’t sure within 2.5 years I had any more issues as to why I wanted to make sure I didn’t need a root canal. I felt like my visit was a lecture. Although I feel you mean well it just rubbed me the wrong way I had a horrible experience with my last root canal which was with dr Lawson who him and his assistant doing the root canal was very unprofessional - his assistant acted like she was getting sick and it made me uncomfortable like she and him were making fun of me and my teeth and i said I would never go back to him and was referred to you. I was also told my payment would be 380ish and I ended up having to pay $415 which I was not expecting that extra amount.

Patient Review by Zuzana M

This was a great experience despite me being extremely terrified my crown will crack. Dr. Garden was patient to explain this is a minor risk. The office gave me follow up call to make sure there are no issues and they even do follow up appt year later - just perfect, I wish I got this kind of dental care in my home country.
